Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone interested in looking after Lancaster’s oldest town house.
The Judges’ Lodgings Museum already has a team of enthusiastic volunteers who play a vital role assisting at the important Grade 1 listed building. There’s now an opportunity for more people to join the team.
Volunteer roles available include Room Stewards, who provide visitors with information during their visit, or becoming part of the Gardening Team, helping to maintain the garden to a high standard for visitors to enjoy.
Volunteers need to be over 18 and, for Room Stewards, need to be able to commit to working from 11am to 4pm on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday once every two weeks. Gardening volunteers may be more flexible.
Full training and support will be given to support volunteers in their role.
Julie Bell, head of libraries, museums, culture and registrars at Lancashire County Council, said: “Set against the iconic backdrop of Lancaster Castle and Lancaster Priory, the Judges’ Lodgings would be a wonderful place to work as a volunteer.
“There are many roles available that volunteers can lend a hand with, depending on their own interests.
“I hope that as many people as possible take the opportunity to get involved. This is a great way to meet like-minded people, and to have the satisfaction of seeing how your work contributes to the running of this iconic building. Volunteers would also see the positive impact of their work on the people who visit.
“Volunteers can opt to do as much as they like, so there’s no pressure to commit lots of your time.”
Judges’ Lodgings volunteer, Karen Verden, said: “I signed up as a volunteer when the house reopened in March. I love being able to do this as I enjoy talking to people, and sharing the history of this fabulous museum with them.
“I’m increasing my own knowledge all the time, and it has given me the chance to socialise and to meet so many like-minded and fascinating people.”
