If your family and friends think you have artistic talent, now’s the time to show your work to a larger audience by taking part in the popular West Lancashire Open Exhibition 2015.

Amateur and professional artists alike have a chance to exhibit at Chapel Gallery so, even if you’ve never exhibited in an art gallery before, this is an excellent opportunity to get your work seen by the general public. There’s also the likelihood that you could take home some of the £1,500 combined prize money.

Entry forms can be downloaded from Chapel Gallery, or from Chapel Gallery. Alternatively, pop into the gallery, in St Helens Road, Ormskirk, which is open from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. If selected, your work will be exhibited at Ormskirk’s prestigious gallery from July 11 to September 9.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “This is an annual exhibition but no two years are ever the same, with guest selectors of high repute it’s one of the best of its kind nationally. The show is open for anyone to enter and includes work from most disciplines, making for an eclectic mix with something for everyone to enjoy.”

Applicants must be 18 years old or over and can submit two original pieces of artwork to be viewed by the selection panel.  All media entered will be considered, from drawing, painting, printmaking and three-dimensional work to photography, sculpture and textiles.

The winner of last year’s first prize was Anna Ketskemety, from Arena Studios in Liverpool, with her Untitled piece.

She said: “Winning first prize at West Lancashire Open last year gave me an enormous boost, both, practically and psychologically. The prize money enabled me to take part in the Eight Days a Week cultural exchange programme in Cologne entitled ‘Von Dort Und Hier’. Inclusion of the win on my CV has given me far more confidence in making subsequent applications because of the recognition and credibility it affords.”

The first prize is £800, with a second prize of £400 and £200 for third place.  Commendations are also awarded along with the prestigious Peoples’ Prize, voted by visitors to the gallery.

Each entrant can submit two original pieces of artwork. The submission days for handing in your work are Friday 26 June and Saturday 27 June, from 10am to 4.30pm.

Large scale two-dimensional and three-dimensional works must be submitted by photograph only. The gallery should be in receipt of these submissions by Friday 26 June.

They should also include a completed entry form and a first class stamp. See the entry form for details. For more information on West Lancashire Borough Council events please visit events.
