Samantha Bole, of William Street, Ince, Wigan, was found guilty of failing to declare her true circumstances to St Helens Council with a view to claiming Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and Income Support.

Ms Bole, previously of Carnegie Crescent, St Helens, had failed to declare that her partner was residing in the property with her, which resulted in an overpayment of benefit totalling £11,103.43.

The 27 year old entered a guilty plea to the offence at St Helens Magistrates Court, and was sentenced on 4 September to a ten-week electronic curfew order between 9pm and 7am. She has also been ordered to pay £400 in court costs, a £60 victim surcharge and is required to repay the full overpayment.

The case was brought by St Helens Council’s Benefit Fraud Team. If you want to report fraud, call the Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 953 0217 or email benefitfraud@sthelens.gov.uk.
