Beacon Country Park and Coronation Park fly the flag as two of the country’s best green spaces

  • West Lancs parks once again awarded Green Flag status
  • Award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces
  • Jubilee and Green Fayre showcased valuable community assets 

Beacon Country Park in Up Holland and Coronation Park in Ormskirk have again been awarded Green Flag status.

The news that the Parks have once again achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Countryside Rangers and council officers that make the Parks great spaces that everyone can enjoy.

The Beacon was first awarded Green Flag status in 2007 and Coronation Park in 2008.

Councillor Carl Coughlan, West Lancashire Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure said: “I’m delighted the Parks have been awarded Green Flag status again. Both Parks were showcased beautifully during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the recent return of the Green Fayre.

“They are a highly valuable assets to our communities and we’re so lucky to have beautiful green spaces on our doorstep we can explore for free.

“But they need a lot of care to achieve Green Flag status, so congratulations to everyone at WLBC who works hard all year long to keep them at their best, particularly the Rangers Team, the Clean and Green Team and all our amazing volunteers.”

Commenting on the news that Beacon Country Park and Coronation Park had met the Green Flag Award standard, Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making the Parks worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“They are a vital green spaces for the community in West Lancashire. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
