Astley Park to host bonfire and fireworks

Families across Chorley will be able to attend a bonfire and fireworks display in Astley Park this year after Chorley Council announced it was working with one of the town’s major tourist attractions Botany Bay and local employer FI Real Estate Management to organise an event on Friday 6 November to mark the traditional bonfire celebrations.

The Astley Park bonfire and fireworks will take place on the park’s playing fields from 6.30pm on Friday 6 November with the bonfire being lit at 7pm and the fireworks display launching at 7.30pm.

Entry to the event is free but there will be collection buckets with voluntary donations going to the Mayor of Chorley’s charities, which include HomeStart Central Lancashire, St Catherine’s Hospice and Derian House.

Councillor Peter Wilson, who oversees events at Chorley Council, said: “People have been telling us they would like to continue seeing a bonfire event in Astley Park and we’re looking forward to organising it this year with sponsorship and support from Botany Bay and FI Real Estate Management. It should be a great evening with a fantastic fireworks display set to light up the Chorley skies.

“The Chorley Carnival Group has organised the event for the last two years but we decided to take over this year and make the event free so that more people could attend. Although there will be charity buckets for voluntary contributions for the Mayor’s charities.

“As it’s the first year we’re organising it, we’re planning on keeping it simple and traditional with a bonfire followed by a great fireworks show that will last around 15 minutes.

“There will also be a few food stalls but people are welcome to bring their own food and enjoy the show against the beautiful backdrop of Astley Hall.”

Tim Knowles, MD of FI Real Estate Management and Botany Bay, added: “As major employers in the Chorley area, we are proud to be sponsoring and supporting the Astley Park bonfire and fireworks which is a great community event. It should be a great evening out for many local families and we can’t wait to see the spectacular fireworks over Astley Hall and the park.”

Anyone attending the bonfire and fireworks event in Astley Park on Friday 6 November is being advised to park in Chorley town centre, where parking will be free after 5pm. The paths from the Park Road and Queens Road entrances to the park will have some lighting to help families find their way to the playing fields.

There will be limited parking on Hallgate car park and restrictions will be put in place in across Astley Village.
