The Friends of Cannington Shaw are hosting an early evening event at Momos Coffee Shop on Wednesday 4th July (an American Holiday) between 6.30 and 8.45pm. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Momos is 8 Cotham Street, St Helens, WA10 1SA. You can buy cakes and toasties and teas and coffees during our meeting.

Cannington Shaw (opposite the Saints Ground and by the bridge over the canal) was once the largest bottle making factory in the World. English Heritage classify it as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, but the Victorian Society list it in their Top Ten most neglected sites in the country. The Friends are working to change that. Its importance in history is the innovative way it recycled hot air to reach the temperatures to make glass.

The 4th July event will be the first in a monthly series of innovative and experimental events at Momos, organised by Chris Coffey, to promote aspects of the arts and heritage. This will include the creepy relatively local X Files tales of ghosts, witches, griffins, murders, and other strange events, sometimes commemorated in bygone local pub names (like Hell Bess).
