If you are a licensed taxi driver with West Lancashire Borough Council and operate in West Lancs, you can now apply for the Taxi Driver COVID Support Scheme Grant.

We have made funding available for taxi drivers affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the form of a grant award to cover driver related costs. The money has been allocated from funding received from Central Government through the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme to support eligible drivers with this one-off payment.

Drivers may be eligible if they:

  • Have a current and valid Taxi Driver Licence issued by West Lancashire Borough Council before 14 October 2020
  • Do not appear on the Gov.uk bankruptcy or insolvency register
  • Are currently working as a taxi driver within West Lancashire
  • Meet state aid requirements

Councillor Gareth Dowling, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Community Safety, said: “We are really pleased to be able to support taxi drivers with this grant. They continue to provide a valuable service to residents and workers during the pandemic, particularly when public transport may not be an option for some clinically vulnerable people.

“Sadly, many drivers have found themselves directly impacted by the crisis due to COVID-19 restrictions, so we felt it important to offer this extra support and we encourage all eligible drivers to apply for the grant to help them continue to offer residents this vital service until restrictions ease.”

Applications must be made by 31 March 2021.
