Appeal made after thieves target cash machine at bank in Burnley

An investigation has been launched by detectives after thieves broken into a bank in Burnley. Police were called a little before 4am on Sunday 4th January to reports of a loud bang at the Barclays Bank on Colne Road. Three men were seen to drive off from the scene of the incident in an estate car, which was possibly an Audi, towards Barnoldswick.

Detectives believe that the cash machine may have been targeted by the raiders using an explosive gas. The amount which was stolen has not been confirmed at this time. There appears to have been nobody injured during the incident.

Det Insp Nick Hodgeson, of Burnley Police, said ‘We are in the early stages of this inquiry and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time or anyone who has any information to get in touch.’
