Appeal for information after 97 year old woman is robbed in her own home in Stockport

0

An investigation is under way by police after a 97 year old woman was robbed at her home in Stockport. Between 7:30pm and 7:50pm on Saturday 14th November, the woman had been at her home on Old Hall Drive in Offerton, when a man has entered the house and has started to search the rooms.

The woman had been in the living room, when the man has gone in and has demanded to know where her purse was. The woman said that she was going to seek help from the local warden, and the man has grabbed her by her wrist and has fled with her purse.

The man has been described as being white, in his late 30s, 5ft 2in tall, of slim build and had a wispy beard. He was wearing a dark winter coat and a peaked hat and he spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable Neil Hewitt of Stockport division said ‘This was a despicable and cowardly robbery, which left an elderly woman bruised and shaken. This is clearly an offence that oversteps the mark for all in society. I would ask that anyone who knows who has committed this crime against a defenceless and frail woman to identify him to us.

‘I also ask that you contact police if you have perhaps seen the purse, which is black imitation leather with an embossed pattern upon it and a gold-coloured clasp.’

Anybody who has got any information has been asked to contact police on 0161 856 9823, 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
