The chaplaincy team and bereavement midwives at Ormskirk hospital hold a memorial service every December in the baby memorial garden for anyone who has experienced the loss of a baby.

This year due to the ongoing restrictions, the team has instead recorded a similar service in the garden, which will be available online from 6.30pm on Wednesday 9 December.

Chaplain Martin Abrams explains:

“The spiritual care team, along with local singers, our chief executive Trish Armstrong Child and lead bereavement midwife Jo Unsworth have come together to share poems, songs and thoughts. We know that many people take comfort from our annual service, so we hope this virtual replacement will be helpful to families at this challenging time. As ever, the service will be for any baby or child loss at any time.”

“This year there will be a big Christmas tree at the front of Ormskirk Hospital outside the out-patients department. We will be inviting anybody who wishes to come and write the name of any loved one – baby or adult – on a bauble and tie it firmly onto the tree. The placing of baubles will of course have to be done within the current and ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.”

Chaplain Jan Fraser continues: “We have had dozens of little angels knitted and donated by volunteers of the last few weeks. Anyone who would like one of these, in memory of their little angel, should contact the chaplaincy and spiritual care service at soh-tr.chaplains@nhs.net and we will post one out to you.”
