With Spring about to launch itself upon us there are a range of free activities being organised by West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers taking place throughout April.

Visitors of all ages will be able to join the Rangers on Wednesday 1st April to look for seasonal, natural wild foods throughout Coronation Park, Ormskirk, at the Family Friendly Foraging event. Anyone who is participating in this event should meet at the Bowling Pavilion at 2pm. There is a similar event taking place at Beacon Country Park on Saturday 18th April, this event starts from the park’s rangers’ hut at 2pm. Places need to be booked for both of these events in advance. Ring 01695 570258 for the Coronation Park event, and call 01695 622794 for the Beacon Country Park session.

Walkers will have the opportunity to discover some of the wonderful countryside of West Lancashire on the Halsall Circular Walk on Monday 6th April. This walk is around five miles and those taking part should meet at Saracens Bridge at 10am. Please ring 01695 622794 for more details. It is possible that it will be muddy in places so suitable footwear should be worn. All children under 18 will require adult supervision.

Councillor David Sudworth said ‘Spring is a great time to visit our local parks and countryside so come along and join our great events.’

There are a number of Junior Rangers Club events planned for the Easter holidays.

Children will be able to join the Rangers on Thursday 7th April for an Easter Eggstravaganza. They will be able to ‘eggsplore’ the park while searching for hidden surprises along the Rangers’ Easter trail. There will also be arts and crafts activities taking place, these include the making and decorating of Easter baskets. The event starts from the Coronation Park Bowling Pavilion at 2pm.

Youngsters will have the chance to participate in the Easter Sports event at Richmond Park, Burscough, on Wednesday 8th April, from 2pm. This will include games such as an assault course which will get people scrambling over and under the tricky obstacles which the Easter Bunny has left behind. There will also be a traditional egg and spoon race, which has got prizes to be won. To join in with this activity you should meet at Richmond Park Bowling Pavilion to join in. There is another Easter sports event taking place at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale, on Friday 10th April, starting at 2pm from the park’s bowling pavilion.

Young detectives will be able to join the Rangers to ‘eggsamine’ the hidden clues along the Rangers’ Easter Trail at Beacon Country Park on Thursday 9 April. The activity starts from the rangers’ hut at 2pm.

These four Junior Rangers Club events are aimed at children aged between five and 12. The children will require adult supervision from someone aged 18 or over throughout. The places for these activities are limited. Booking opens seven days before each event and it is essential to avoid disappointment. Further details on these events can be found and places booked by emailing beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk or call 01695 622794.

Suitable footwear and clothing should be worn for the weather and ground conditions when attending rangers’ outdoor events.
