A weekend of feelgood flower power for Knowsley this August

0

The Knowsley Flower Show, the largest free horticultural show in the North West, will return to Court Hey Park in Huyton this summer. It’s a particularly special show this year as its celebrating its 20th anniversary, and set to be bigger and better than ever!

This year’s show takes place on Sunday, August 5. With more than 100 classes you can enter, in categories including general cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables, crafts, as well as categories just for novices and young people – you can feel comfortable whatever your experience or ability.

If growing isn’t for you, you can still enjoy a great day out for all of the family; expect the usual attractions from previous years including live music, crafts, a farmers market, a multicultural community zone, face painting, fair rides and much more. New for 2018 is the Merseyside Fun Dog Show so you can bring your dog along to join in the fun! Your best friend can get involved in a host of activities planned especially for them including ‘retrieve the sausage’ and ‘the waggulator’!

And, green fingered or not, everyone will be wowed by the large floral marquee at the heart of the show, which will showcase more than 400 beautiful exhibits, bursting with colour and creativity.

And it’s not just the Knowsley Flower Show to look forward to. There’ll be more fun at Court Hey Park that weekend, with the Feelgood Festival providing the perfect warm-up the day before (Saturday, August 4).

No matter what your energy levels are, you can enjoy the many health and wellbeing activities offered at the Feelgood Festival, such as physical activities to boost your heart rate, and calmer activities designed to relax and de-stress you.

You may find your talent or even a new hobby when you try your hand at some of the many activities on offer such as drawing, painting, knitting, crochet, dancing, mindful yoga and martial arts. You can also learn how to lead a healthier lifestyle on the day, with tips on how to eat better and cook healthier meals.

If health and beauty is more your thing, you will enjoy the various stalls set up that will leave you feeling pampered and refreshed; you can enjoy therapy taster sessions such as arm massages and try out some lovely beauty products. Lush, a favourite cruelty free cosmetics company, will also be there offering complementary treatments and spreading some lush magic.

Children will be kept well entertained and will have plenty of fun learning opportunities including an entertainer, storytelling and lots of interactive science workshops. They’ll be able to try out some exciting ‘power peddlers’ to generate electricity and power the plasma balls at the Light and Energy funstation, as well as having a ‘hair-raising’ time with a Van de Graaff generator!

And, with slime being one of the biggest playground crazes of the moment, young visitors are sure to love the Slime Zone – where they’ll find out all about polymers and their uses in this ooey gooey substance! Plus, they’ll be able to take home their very own pot of slime.

All in all, it’s a weekend expected to be full of fun, flowers and feeling good – so get the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 August 2018 in your diaries. Knowsley Feelgood Festival is on from 1pm to 5pm, and Knowsley Flower Show is on from 11am to 5pm.

Both events take place at Court Hey Park, Huyton, and all-day onsite parking is available for £4 at the Knowsley Flower Show and £2 for Feelgood Festival.
