Working on Elections – Casual Vacancies

0

The Returning Officer for West Lancashire is seeking expressions of interest from members of the public who wish to be part of a pool of casual election staff and considered for casual election related work with the West Lancashire area.

At every election the Returning Officer relies on dedicated additional staff to support the democratic process. Roles include: working in one of the numerous Polling Stations across the Borough as a Presiding Officer or Poll Clerk or working as a Count Assistant; sorting, verifying and counting the votes cast.

Being accepted into the Returning Officer’s staff pool does not guarantee that you will be offered a post, but you may be contacted about short term election specific roles as and when they arise.

Further information on the posts available and an application form can be found by visiting www.westlancs.gov.uk/jobs and clicking on ‘polling day casual vacancies’. Completed forms should be emailed to: elections.staffing@westlancs.gov.uk  or posted to: Elections Staffing, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DF.

Those who submit an expression of interest must have the right to work in the UK and should note that those appointed to casual election roles are employed directly by the Returning Officer and not by West Lancashire Borough Council. Also, the Returning Officer is unable to employ anyone who is, or intends to, work or volunteer on behalf of any political party or candidate at any election.

Anyone who has previously undertaken this work and recently updated their contact details with the Returning Officer do not need to submit a fresh declaration of interest.

Anyone who has any questions can either visit the website, as mentioned above, or contact the elections team by email at elections.staffing@westlancs.gov.uk or by telephone on 01695 585014.
