Witness appeal made after intruder robs £600 from 64 year old man in Orrell

An appeal for witnesses has been made by police after a man has broken into a house in Orrell and has robbed the owner. At about 11:30pm on Saturday 11th July 2015, the 64 year old victim had been asleep in his house on Peter Street, Orrell, when he was awoken by the sounds of somebody forcing their way in through his front door.

After he has gone to investigate, the victim was confronted by an intruder, who has threatened the victim and has demanded money.

The terrified victim has handed over £600 in cash and the offender has then fled from the house, where it is thought that he was joined by another man who had been waiting outside.

The first offender has been described as being 5ft 7in tall, with a slim build. He had been wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava with red stitching around the eyes.

Detective Constable Sophie O’Rourke said ‘You can imagine the terror this victim must have felt as he heard someone force their way through his front door late at night. He cooperated with the demands of this offender and was left unhurt as a result.

‘But that should take nothing away from the severity of this crime and we ask that anyone who thinks they may have seen anything suspicious in that area at the time to contact police as a matter of urgency.’

Anybody who has got any information has been asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
