NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been rated as ‘good’ in NHS England’s 2015/16 CCG Assurance Framework.

NHS England’s CCG Assurance Framework assesses CCG’s across the country in five measures, these are; ‘Well Led Organisation’, ‘Delegated Functions’, ‘Finance’, ‘Performance’ and ‘Planning’. Based on this criteria, CCGs are then rated as either ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’.

NHS West Lancashire CCG’s official rating from NHS England was ‘good’, with notable highlights that led to this rating being the CCG’s robust governance structure with both stakeholder and member practice engagement, strong financial management and reference was made to the management of the floods that hit the region in the winter of 2015, which highlighted the CCG’s high level of resilience and planning.

Mike Maguire, chief officer at NHS West Lancashire CCG, said following the announcement:

“We are delighted to have received the ‘good’ standard for our CCG, which is a testament to the progress that we are continuing to make in providing the best possible health and social care for the residents of West Lancashire.

“We are in challenging economic times at the moment, so for our financial situation to be highlighted as well as our planning and resilience around last year’s floods and our strong grip on the issues affecting the region, is a reflection of the hard work that goes on within the CCG.  I would therefore like to thank our local GPs, clinicians and lay members of our board, our staff, and our wider stakeholders and partner organisations for their commitment to improving local health services.

“However, we acknowledge that to achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating in the future, there are areas that we need to strengthen, including A&E waiting times and delivering a four hour standard, and improving the pace of which we implement our primary care transformation.”
