The staff and students of West Lancashire College Creative Arts department, together with the Concourse Shopping Centre, have cause for celebration this week.
After months of hard work, a project that they have been working on, alongside the Concourse Shopping Centre, has finally completed, seeing the installation of four large hanging banners in the front atrium of the Concourse Shopping Centre.
The art and design students of the West Lancashire College have been working on a live art commission to redesign four large scale hanging banners in the centre. This incorporated creating initial ideas, presenting, receiving feedback and developing the designs in to the final pieces that have been professionally printed and hung in the centre for all to see and enjoy.
To celebrate the completion of this huge project, that gave the students experience of working to a real client brief, as part of their work placement and enrichment activities for their course, the Concourse Shopping Centre is holding a launch event to celebrate the installation of the banners. This will be the first time many of the students and staff will have seen the outcome of their hard work.
We would also like to invite members of the public to join us in this celebration. Students and staff of the college creative arts department and the Concourse shopping centre will be on hand to explain the project, what the banners represent and to take members of the public through an exhibition showcasing the project. Many people may have taken part in the photoshoot, held at the Concourse, back in March, where the college collected images of the local community as part of the project, to use on two of the banners. See if you recognise anyone!
The special event will be held in Unit 144 of the Concourse Shopping Centre on Wednesday 7th June 2017 at 3pm. Unit 144 is located on the first floor of the Concourse shopping centre, next to the West Lancashire Council customer service point and at the top of the main escalator and lift area, where the banners are taking up their new home.
We hope to see you there!
