Upcycling exhibition to take over town hall

In the arts world, they say no matter what happens, the show must go on – and that’s exactly the case for one local art exhibition which, until recently, ran the risk of being without a venue.

For over a year, Passsoul Studio Services CIC – a non-for-profit art studio based in Market Street, Newton-le-Willows, that creates amazing pieces of art and upcycled furniture – has been planning to host an exhibition in St Helens to showcase the work of its students.

Due to reasons out of Passsoul’s control, the original venue they had hoped to stage their event became unavailable. And so, on hearing the news, St Helens Council’s Town Centre Manager Gary Maddock stepped in to relocate the 15 day- long exhibition to St Helens Town Hall.

The Soul Vessel Collection exhibition will show creative recycling and art made by Passsoul according to its original designs and works of its students from both commercial and community groups and projects, including children, the visually impaired – and other groups.

Speaking ahead of the exhibition, visual artist, Paula Pietrzak, who runs Passsoul Studio Services CIC with her husband Piotr, said: “Since starting out in 2013, it has been our ambition to host an exhibition in the borough to show people the wonders that can be achieved through upcycling.

“Thanks to Gary, we’ll now be able to do this from within the beautiful town hall, and it would be great to see as many people as possible come down to see all of the incredible work on show.”

The Soul Vessel Collection will be on public display in the St Helens Town Hall Assembly Room from 9:00am-5:30pm, Monday to Friday from 25 August to 8 September –with a launch party event taking place on Friday 1 September, 4:00pm – 6:30pm.

Entrance to the exhibition is free and anyone is welcome to attend.
