Tomato/Tomato, Canadian Bluegrass
The Arts Centre, Burscough Wharf
Sunday 26th November, 8pm (Doors 7:30pm)
Canadian bluegrass duo Tomato/Tomato are setting their sights on completing their first sell-out tour of the UK when they visit The Arts Centre, Burscough Wharf this month.
The last gig of the UK tour takes place on Sunday 26 November at 8pm, with tickets priced at £8 each.
‘Tomato/Tomato’ is not your garden variety duo. This New Brunswick-based couple, John and Lisa McLaggan, write clever and quirky original songs that draw on traditional Folk, Bluegrass, Blues and Swing with their own interesting twist.
Lisa performs on an old washboard, adorned with tin cans and a cymbal while simultaneously playing bass and snare drums with her feet! John’s old-time guitar and Lisa’s up-cycled percussion create an unmistakable sound that is unique, refreshing and fun. Their music combines years of study with the everyday ebb and flow of life on the East Coast of Canada.
Following the release of their debut album So It Goes, the quirky duo are now setting their sights on conquering the rest of the world with their upcoming sophomore effort, I Go Where You Go. Led by the album’s first single “Ain’t Dead Yet”, I Go Where You Go builds on their signature blend of high-energy foot stompers and traditional folk. Be sure to catch this exciting duo whilst on their UK tour!
Tickets for the show can be purchased by calling Sandy Tyrer on 01704 896590.
The show forms part of Spot On Lancashire’s autumn season of touring, taking professional arts events to village halls and libraries across the county. Speaking ahead of the performance, Spot On’s Lyndsey Wilson said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Tomato/Tomato to Lancashire. We had the opportunity to see the band at a recent showcase in Canada and we knew they’d be perfect for our audiences. It’s music that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step.”
