Esmond has been acknowledged as one of the world’s great jazz guitarists and equally one of the world’s foremost jazz guitar instructors ever since his entry in 1995 into the highly prestigious and much coveted work by Ivor Mairants, ‘The Great Jazz Guitarists’. His style forms a direct link with the great jazz guitarists of the past: Chuck Wayne, Tal Farlow, Barry Galbraith and Sal Salvador.
Esmond has been made an ambassador for the Wirral Guitar Festival for his fine standard of work in representing the jazz element of the guitar. He first became involved in the Wirral Guitar Festival in 1987 at the invitation of the late and great Brendan McCormack when he was asked to appear opposite Charlie Byrd in the theatre at Port Sunlight and has continued to perform for the event most years ever since.
A little about Tony Kofi – winner, best instrumentalist at the 2008 BBC Jazz awards; winner, best Ensemble at the 2005 Parliamentary Jazz Awards; winner, Radio 3 Jazz line up album of the year 2005 BBC Jazz awards; nominated for a MOBO award 2008. Also an instructor of Saxophones (Alto/Soprano/Tenor & Baritone) Flutes, Piano, Recorder, Percussion instruments and music notation.
