The Deal is in action again

Residents in Wigan have the chance to find out how to improve their communities in another week of action.

Throughout the week (Monday 19th September – Friday 23rd September) residents in both Wigan Central and Wigan West wards will be encouraged to find out how they can get involved in local activities and how they can work with the council to improve their local area.

Wigan Council has been visiting the borough’s wards since 2015 and the Deal in Action weeks have proven a hit with the public, especially the ‘have your say’ sessions, which is the main event of each week.

This time held at Wigan and Leigh College, Parsons Walk, on Thursday 22nd September, the Chief Executive of Wigan Council, Donna Hall, and Leader of Wigan Council, Lord Peter Smith, will welcome questions and feedback from residents about The Deal and local issues.

The session will be held from 5.30pm – 8pm and is a chance for residents to share their ideas about how the council can work with residents to improve communities. There will also be free NHS checks at the session for those aged between 40 and 74.

Donna Hall, chief executive of the council, said: “The Deal in Action has been a huge hit since it launched last year and we’ve been successful in acknowledging the issues residents raise and finding a solution.

“The weeks of action are all about focusing on individual communities to improve the borough as a whole and is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of the council and the public working together to do this.

“We hope to show people that both sides have important roles to play in making our communities better places and we’d love to see as many residents as possible get involved during the week.”

The council will bring a range of services to the residents of Wigan throughout the week, from information about community groups, recycling, in bloom, volunteering and much more. The Deal is the council’s informal contract with residents to improve the borough and to work better with communities.
