Teachers Get Top Marks (640x480)

Outstanding! Outstanding! Outstanding!

That’s the official verdict bestowed on a Wigan-based Initial Teacher Training Provider which produces some of the most “highly sought after” teachers in Wigan, and the North West region.

Ofsted’s latest inspection of Ince-based Kingsbridge Initial Teacher Education (ITE), part of Community First Academy Trust, is outstanding in all key areas including the outcomes for trainees, quality of training, quality of leadership and overall effectiveness.

Highlights from the report by the Office for Standards in Education included producing “excellent teachers” who are “exceptionally well prepared for employment” and who “demonstrate strong professional and personal qualities which hallmark them as Kingsbridge trainees”.

The report paid tribute to the “clear leadership and management structures” and highlighted the fact that “trainees secure high levels of attainment” and “are very much sought after.” It also noted high employment rates for graduates and a “highly effective programme of centre and school-based training”.

Sue Darbyshire CEO of Community First Academy Trust said: “This report is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. It is a fantastic achievement and everyone here is glowing with pride.

“At Kingsbridge we have a strong commitment to recruiting and training people with a strong aptitude for teaching. This combined with working alongside school-based colleagues who model outstanding practice ensures a fantastic result, not only for those wishing to gain employment but also the children they go on to teach. Kingsbridge is the only SCITT in North West England with two consecutive Initial Teacher Education outstanding Ofsted Reports for Primary and Secondary ITE (2012 and 2016)”

Kingsbridge ITE was formed in 2003 to provide an employment-based route into teaching. It provides early years, primary and secondary school-centred initial teacher training for graduates.

Trainees who successfully complete their training are recommended for qualified teacher status (QTS).

Working in partnership with five secondary schools and eleven primary schools, trainees are based in their main school throughout the training year with a substantial second placement in a contrasting school.

Ofsted noted that it was this real life experience where “trainees observe highly effective practice” which motivates them to develop their skills as one of the many reasons which ensures “trainees and former trainees demonstrate strong professional and personal qualities, which hallmark them as Kingsbridge trainees.”
