The Bannatyne health club in Skelmersdale has been recognised for its fundraising and charitable endeavours.

The club received the ‘Most Charitable Club’ award at the company’s recent national conference.

The Northway-based club enthusiastically embraces the company’s fundraising for its chosen charities Operation Smile and Look Good Feel Better UK (LGFB) helping to contribute tens of thousands of pounds every year.

The club also supports its members in their charitable activities, including member Matt Newman who is raising money for Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research). Bloodwise is very close to Matt’s heart, in 2013 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and underwent 3 years of gruelling treatment. Now in remission Matt and friend Alan Lomax are attempting to cycle 354 miles from Aberdeen to the Skelmersdale health club in 4 days.

General Manager Phill Nuttall said: “This award is for everyone involved with the Bannatyne health club Skelmersdale.

“My colleagues and members are incredibly generous with their time, money and skills and this makes our fundraising efforts both fun and successful. The company supports two amazing charities that are often unsung but do fantastic work. I am very much looking forward to visiting a LGFB workshop at the Royal Liverpool Hospital to see for myself how the money we raise is spent and the difference it makes to people’s lives.

“It is also important to me, and everyone at the club, that we are seen as a part of the local community and assisting Matt in his very ambitious cycle ride is something I am proud to do.”

Justin Musgrove, chief executive of the Bannatyne Group, said: “Well done to everyone at Skelmersdale. Colleagues and members throw themselves into fundraising with gusto and the award for most charitable club is well-deserved.”
