Residents can come along to Community Action Days

1

West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership (CSP) invites residents to join West Lancashire Borough Council, Police, Fire Service Officers and other agencies for a Community Action and Engagement Day in their neighbourhood.

Community action days are planned for Tanhouse, Old Skelmersdale, Digmoor, Little Digmoor, Moorside and Scott Estate, Ormskirk. Each one will aim to improve working relationships, increase community confidence and reduce the fear of crime.

Previous action days in West Lancashire have been a great success, proving that community spirit is alive and well in the borough.

Councillor Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: “I hope residents will take part in the community action days, use the skips and talk to staff from the Council, Police and other agencies about any concerns they have about crime, community safety and other issues.”

Events take place in each of the locations and dates indicated below. The community skips funded by the CSP will be on site from 9.30 am and removed the same day, once full.

Date Location
Tuesday, 8 August Little Digmoor, Acregate, Outside of Singhs Shop
Wednesday,  9 August Digmoor, Banksbarn / Blythewood
Thursday, 10 August Moorside, Near to Digmoor Parade
Tuesday, 15 August Tanhouse, Ennerdale, in car park
Wednesday, 16 August Old Skelmersdale, High Street, Woodrow
Thursday, 17 August Scott Estate, Scott Drive

A range of CSP agencies will offer support and advice on the following themes:

  • The Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team will provide information on environmental issues and conduct visual audits with the Council’s Estates Management Team and Fire Service personnel
  • The Police will hold a street surgery on each day to meet local residents. Police officers will also carry out bike security marking, which will be backed up with ‘Alpha Dot’ stickers that are a high visibility deterrent to potential thieves. The only day this will not be available will be Thursday 10 August.
  • Fire Service personnel will meet people to arrange home fire safety checks and give information about fire safety issues
  • On Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 August Young Addaction will be available to offer advice and support on substance misuse issues including drugs and alcohol
  • Lancashire Wellbeing will be on hand to help anyone who has concerns over their finances, health and fitness, mobility and transport, relationships and family, employment and housing. The organisation can also help people feeling anxious, stressed, isolated, or simply overwhelmed and unable to cope, and can be contacted at lancswellbeing.co.uk

David Tilleray, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, said: “Community action days are great events for local communities and I’d like to pay tribute to all the organisations, ward councillors and individual residents who help make them successful.”

Police Chief Inspector Jill Halliwell said: “We hope to see as many people as possible at the community action days and look forward to speaking to them.”

Fire Service West Lancashire District Delivery Manager Matthew Hamer said: “Fire safety is an important issue and we hope to speak to lots of residents to get this message across.”

  1. While it is a good idea for those areas mentioned in the article, why has Birch Green been left out of the community action days?
