A schedule of ‘inclusive screenings’ aimed at making the cinema accessible to all is now available in Chorley. George Formby, Gracie Fields, Ginger Rogers, and Elvis Presley are among the stars of a new season of classic film screenings at Chorley Little Theatre.

Following ten ‘dementia-friendly’ events at the venue in the past two years, Chorley Empire Community Cinema are continuing the project to provide ‘inclusive’ screenings, with the support of Chorley Council. The showings are open to everyone, but will have low-level light, clear signage, and extra wheelchair spaces for people with accessibility issues.

All the films are on Thursdays at 1.30pm and cost £3 per ticket, with tea/coffee and biscuits an extra £1. With volunteers from the cinema, Chorley’s Angels First Aiders and other community groups on hand a warm welcome is promised to everyone.

The season started in October with Elvis Presley musical Blue Hawaii and proved to be a fantastic success. On 9th November, Ginger Rogers is a chorus girl taking part in elaborate Busby Berkley dance numbers in Gold Diggers of 1933.

The season continues in 2018 with 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Turned Out Nice Again, Safety Last and Look Up And Laugh in January, March, April and May respectively.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council, said: “Creating a social environment where people living with dementia can enjoy a leisure activity with their friends, family and carers is really important.

These screenings not only have the power to bring people together but it is a great tool to improve mental wellbeing and self-confidence.”

Eddie Robinson, Chairman of Chorley Empire Community Cinema, said: “it’s great to see these classic films on the big screen and we want as many people to come and watch as possible, so that’s why we’re calling them ‘inclusive’ screenings – there’s something for everyone.”

Chorley Little Theatre has just been refurbished, which means there are comfier seats and more wheelchair spaces for special events like these.

Tickets are available online at www.chorleytheatre.com, in person from Malcolm’s Musicland or during theatre opening times.
