QuitPal comes to St Helens – free smokefree app support in the palm of your hand

0

An innovative free new smartphone app to help people quit smoking has been launched by Smokefree St Helens. QuitPal has been designed to make it easier than ever for people to access information, advice and support wherever they are, 24 hours a day.

Free to download, QuitPal features a motivating four-week quit programme with practical daily support and advice and real time information about nicotine replacement products, the amount of money being saved and positive changes in the user’s health.

QuitPal was created by stop smoking specialists at City Health Care Partnership CIC and gives people a range of practical and easy to use interactive tools to raise awareness about the benefits of being smoke free and how smoking affects your lifestyle, family, health and those around you.

Councillor Jeannie Bell, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing said: “It can be difficult to stop smoking, but this app will really help to motivate and keep you going. You’re not alone with help on hand from the St Helens Smokefree Service. Why not join together and quit with friends, family and colleagues to help you in your quit attempt.”

Liz Gaulton, Director of Public Health said: “If you smoke, quitting is the single best thing you can do for your health. The new year is a great time for a new start and there are many tools to help you quit and stay quit. You’re four times more likely to succeed with help like this.”

Giles Bridgeman, Public Health Senior Operational Manager at City Health Care Partnership CIC said:

“QuitPal is a fantastic new way of helping people to become smoke free. People’s lives are incredibly busy and they often don’t have the time to come to regular stop smoking services, so this will allow them to access the same information and support through their mobile phone at any time of the day or night in a place that suits them.

“We are committed to finding new and unique ways of communicating with people and are thrilled to be using smartphone app technology in this way. QuitPal enables people to get real-time interactive information in a practical way that is personalised and relevant.”

The introduction of ‘QuitPal’ follows the success of the Smokefree St Helens online programme and SMS text support services and is yet another example of how St Helens Council are making it easier to access stop smoking information and support.

Accessing QuitPal is free and easy and it is available for Android and Apple smartphone users: just search for QuitPal at Google Play (for Android users) and the App Store (for Apple users), download the app and then open and follow instructions.
