A festival of events will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the installation of Another Place on Crosby beach.

The summer of 2015 marks 10 years since the famous Iron Men arrived in Sefton and a programme of community activities is being drawn up.

Events include free exhibitions, guided walks and cycle rides, community fun days and school art workshops.

Sefton Council are also asking visitors to the beach to take a selfie with the statues and are invited to upload their picture to a dedicated Flickr group to record their visit to the famous public artwork.

Artist Antony Gormley will also return to Crosby beach to mark the launch of the celebrations on the afternoon of June, 29.

The festival of activities has been put together by Sefton Council with support from Regenerus. Under its former title, the South Sefton Partnership, Regenerus was responsible for bringing Another Place to Sefton in 2005.

Organisers hope that other community events may also be arranged throughout the year and the council is keen to share and publicise other events or ideas.

Cllr Ian Maher, Leader of Sefton Council, said: “Another Place is an internationally-renowned work of public art visited by thousands of people every year.

“The Iron Men have become synonymous with our area and people often tell me how much they have enjoyed their visit to the beach or that they found the artwork awe inspiring.

“We were determined to mark the 10th anniversary and remind people that this fantastic attraction is here in Sefton, on Crosby beach.

“We really want the community to get involved by visiting these events or engaging with the digital celebrations on social media and more details will be publicised over the coming weeks.”

Cate Murphy, Chief Executive of Regenerus, added: “We little envisaged, 10 years ago, that Another Place would still be here on Crosby beach, but they feel like they belong here, now.

“What is always lovely is to see the enthusiasm with which local people and visitors alike have taken them to their hearts – they certainly make a huge impact on the attractions of the beach as well as helping the local economy by attracting new visitors.”

Details of activities will be released during the course of summer.
