Park for Longer in Knowsley’s Town Centres

From Saturday 11 August the maximum short stay period on council owned pay and display car parks across the borough will be increased by one hour, meaning that short stay users can now park for up to three hours for just £1.20.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said: “This is just one of the many ways in which we are working to drive footfall into our local towns. Giving shoppers an extra hour at no extra cost will have a positive impact on shops and businesses in Knowsley and help to drive our local economy.”

Ian McCormack, manager of Bexley’s Butchers in Huyton: “This outcome is great news for businesses like ours. We know our customers are keen to support local business and I’m pleased to hear that the Council is giving them an extra hour of parking so that they can do just that.”

Karen Maloney, owner of Renaissance Beauty in Prescot said “The very nature of our business means that our customers are with us for extended periods of time. Extending the short stay period means that they can relax and enjoy their treatments rather than worrying that their parking might run out.

Blue Badge holders will still be entitled to park for an additional extra hour for free making the maximum short stay period for Blue Badge holders a total of four hours.

The fee for a one hour stay will remain at 60 pence and the condition of ‘no return within one hour’ is unchanged. Additionally, Level 3 of Kirkby Multi-storey Car Park will be converted from ‘short stay only’ to both long stay and short stay parking.

Changes to car park signage and printed tickets will be phased in from Wednesday 8th August, with all car parks implementing the new three hour tariff by Saturday 11th August. Please check your ticket to confirm expiry time.

This is further good news for Knowsley’s Town Centres. It follows the recent arrival of Holland and Barratt in Huyton Town centre knowsleynews.co.uk/holland-barrett-heads-trio-of-huyton-village-lettings, and the successful series of Foodie Friday events knowsleynews.co.uk/first-foodie-friday-a-great-success in the town this summer.

Meanwhile, in Kirkby, work is well underway on the transformation of the town centre, with a new Morrisons supermarket, KFC and larger Home Bargains knowsleynews.co.uk/major-brands-to-open-new-shops-in-kirkby among the confirmed retailers. And in Prescot, as excitement for the forthcoming Shakespeare North Playhouse knowsleynews.co.uk/funding-boost-shakespeare-north-playhouse-prescot-town-centre continues to build, several new restaurants are set to open including independent street food themed eatery The Kingsmen, Balearic bar and charcuterie Urbano Chiringuito, Down In Albion and Pinion, the latest venture of chef and entrepreneur Gary Usher. They follow a new Shakespeare themed micropub, The Bard knowsleynews.co.uk/new-shakespeare-inspired-micropub-opens-prescot, which opened in February this year.
