Newborn baby survives fall through train toilet in India

Police have said on Tuesday that a newborn Indian baby has survived what can be described as a shocking birth after slipping down a train toilet and landing on railway tracks shortly after his mother gave birth to him. The 22 year old woman had fainted in the tiny toilet cubicle on Monday after she had given birth on the train, which had stopped for a short time before it reached Hanumangarh station in western Rajasthan state.

By the time that the woman’s family members had found her unconscious in the toilet cubicle the train had already left for Hanumangarh.

The newborn child was spotted crying on the train tracks by a local guard, who then informed the police. The police admitted the baby to a nearby hospital.

Ram Singh, a police official, said ‘When the woman and her husband found their newborn alive and safe, they were very happy. They had not expected that the newborn would be alive.’
