New board members appointed

NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has welcomed two local GPs, Dr Rakesh Jaidka and Dr Vik Mittal, to its board.

Dr Jaidka and Dr Mittal, have been appointed as GP executive leads following a recent election process involving local GP practices.

Dr Jaidka is currently a partner at Skelmersdale Family Practice and has been a GP in Skelmersdale since qualifying in 2011. He has a keen interest in minor surgery and sexual and reproductive health.

Dr Jaidka said: “’I’m delighted to have been appointed to the CCG executive board and thank all the local GPs for their support. I am looking forward to working with other colleagues from the region in representing the interests of our patients and population in general. I feel positive about using my local knowledge and skills to improve the quality of health care provision in West Lancashire.”

Dr Mittal has worked in West Lancashire for over 14 years and is currently a partner at Tarleton Group Practice. Vik has an interest in IT and musculoskeletal services.

Dr Mittal said: “My roots are well entrenched in West Lancashire. I have an understanding of the local issues which affect patients. My agenda is to improve health outcomes and quality of care for West Lancashire patients by overseeing wrapped around patient care in various partnerships. I firmly believe in leading and managing improvement in healthcare systems is just as important as acting on behalf of the individual patient”.

Dr John Caine, chair of NHS West Lancashire CCG, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Rakesh and Vik to the board, both of whom bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to commissioning. By having local clinicians working alongside experienced commissioners, we achieve a strong blend of experience to help enhance the healthcare offering for our local community.

“Importantly, I would like to express thanks the outgoing GP executive leads, Dr Simon Frampton and Dr Ros Bonsor, for their valuable contribution over the last few years as members of the board. They have made a huge contribution in helping to improve health services in West Lancashire”.

The CCG has six local GPs on its board, alongside a chief officer, chief finance officer, chief nurse, secondary care doctor and two lay members.  More information is available via www.westlancashireccg.nhs.uk
