Mobile library service vehicle temporarily parked

The temporary library service for St Anne’s won’t be available for a short period of time next month.

The library service is currently being delivered from a mobile library vehicle, which is based in the car park behind the Public Offices, 288 Clifton Drive South. The vehicle will be unavailable while it undergoes its annual service, prior to the necessary MOT also being completed.

The last day that the mobile unit will be available will be 5pm on Tuesday 2 October, and it will be available again on Thursday 11 October.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “We’re really sorry for this disruption to the service.

“We’ve done our best to cause as less disruption as possible, but the annual service and MOT has to be done. It is compulsory, and we have to ensure the safety of our customers whilst they are using the service.

“Unfortunately we have no spare vehicle that we could use as a replacement, so we have no option. We know how much the mobile library is valued by our customers and we’ll get this vehicle back in place as soon as we can.”

The mobile unit is currently operating to ensure that people have access to library services, whilst a significant amount of vital structural repair work and renovation is being carried out to the grade 2 listed Carnegie St Anne’s Library building.

The nearest alternative libraries that will be open when the mobile unit isn’t available are:

• Ansdell Library (59 Commonside, Ansdell) – 0300 123 6703 or ansdell.library@lancashire.gov.uk

• Kirkham Library (Station Road) – 0300 123 6703 or kirkham.library@lancashire.gov.uk

Ansdell and Kirkham libraries are remaining open for longer to ensure access to a full library service, and this will continue until St Annes library reopens.

All library members can use their cards at any library in Lancashire.

Anyone who lives in the UK can join a Lancashire library, either online or by visiting in person. Membership is free and there are no age restrictions.
