Stride out this month on two fabulous walks in West Lancashire organised by the Borough Council’s Parks and Countryside Ranger Service.

On Monday 6 March the Rangers will lead a four-mile Tawd Valley Loop walk. People should meet outside Skelmersdale Library at 9.50am for a 10am start.

A longer eight-mile Lathom Circular walk takes place on Sunday 19 March. Meet at the Ruff Woods entrance on the corner of Vicarage Lane at 9.50am for a 10am start.

There is no need to book in advance for these walks but you can call the Rangers on 01695 622794 for more information.

The Council, in partnership with Active West Lancs, also organises shorter weekly health walks in Banks, Burscough, Ormskirk and Skelmersdale. For more details please visit www.westlancs.gov.uk/healthwalks

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “These long walks will take in some lovely scenery so come along and put your best foot forward.”

The Rangers are also organising a number of events for the Great British Spring Clean, a national campaign to help clean up our environment.

Volunteers are more than welcome to join in with Borough Council clean up events organised by the Parks and Countryside Ranger Service. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The activities are as follows:

  • Coronation Park, Ormskirk, Saturday 4 March. Meet at the bowling pavilion at 1pm
  • Chequer Lane Lake, Up Holland, Sunday 5 March. Meet at the car park at 10am
  • Tawd Valley Park, Skelmersdale, Wednesday 8 March. Meet at the turning circle on Summer Street at 10am
