Local mental health service wins national award

Great news for the Knowsley Parent Infant Mental Health Service – the team has won the Outreach to Vulnerable Groups award at the National Children and Young People’s Mental Health Awards 2018.

The specialist service is delivered by North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS and it works hard to support parents, infants, families and professionals in Knowsley.

The team supports families to build secure attachments and loving bonds with their babies by offering specialist support surrounding mental health and relationships. Clinical psychologists and specialist midwives work together to support parents before and after their baby is born, and this collaborative work has helped reach an engagement rate of 96%.

The service’s one-to-one and/or group sessions helps parents to manage their emotional wellbeing, develop a healthy relationship with their baby, build their confidence and understand their baby’s needs better.

The awards celebrate positive practice from around the country and the Outreach to Vulnerable Groups award was created for an individual or group who have made significant improvements of young people who may have dealt with discrimination or disadvantages.

Dr Lisa Marsland, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Strategic Service Lead, said: “I am delighted, so proud and incredibly grateful for this amazing recognition. I can’t think of any better achievement than to receive the Outreach to Vulnerable Groups award as this is what our service is all about!

Thank you to our amazing team, North West Boroughs Healthcare, Knowsley Children’s Centres and CCG commissioners who have made this service and national award possible. However, the greatest thanks go to our Knowsley families who work hard to build bonds, break tough cycles, and show what a different our service can make.”
