The most decorated player in rugby league history is to be guest of honour at a sportsman’s dinner to be held at a North Lancashire hotel.

Inspirational dual code rugby legend Shaun Edwards OBE, who enjoyed a glittering career with Wigan and is now a hugely successful rugby union coach, will take centre stage at the Lancaster House event on Saturday 9 April 2016 from 7:30pm.

A schoolboy England international in both codes before signing professional forms on his 17th birthday, Shaun Edwards became a rugby league superstar with the all-conquering Wigan team of the 1980s and 1990s.

The former Great Britain half-back was renowned for his skill and bravery and received the ‘Man of Steel’ award in 1990 after he played most of the Challenge Cup final against Warrington with a broken cheekbone and eye socket. Having retired from playing, he switched codes and embarked on a coaching career with Wasps and latterly with Wales.

Tickets for the dinner are £45 per person or £300 per table booking of eight guests (£37.50 per person).

Andy Lemm from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, the General Manager at Lancaster House, says: “Shaun Edwards OBE is one of the all-time rugby league greats and we’re really looking forward to a top quality night of entertainment and sporting insight into one of the toughest and most skillful players to have ever taken the field.

“Since hanging up his boots from the 13 man code, he has broken new ground and forged a hugely successful career as a rugby union coach. It will be fascinating to hear him talk about his experiences of both codes from the pitch and the sideline. A highly enjoyable evening of great food, drink and sport is in prospect.”

Multi-talented comedian and impressionist Mark Langley will also entertain the guests on the night with an array of character impersonations from the world of sport and television.

Sponsored by The Wild Boar Brewhouse, the Lancaster House sportsman’s dinner will commence with a drinks reception followed by a Lancashire themed three course meal before the headline acts. To book tickets for the dinner, telephone 01524 844 822.

And for those wanting to make a real night of it, tickets to the dinner with an accompanying bed and breakfast package are available from £99 for one person in a classic double and £169 for two people. To book tickets and accommodation together, please call 0333 4141 333.
