Investigation launched after Darwen attack

Detectives are investigating after a 27-year-old man was seriously injured following an incident in Darwen.

Police were called around 3am yesterday (October 15) after reports a male had been found injured in Railway Road.

Officers attended and the man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by paramedics for treatment for multiple facial fractures.

Following further investigation, police later attended an address in Newton Street and arrested three people.

Further enquiries resulted in more people being detained.

Detectives believe the 27-year-old man had been assaulted in the Newton Street area sometime between 2am and 3am and are appealing for information.

Det Insp Mark Haworth-Oates, of Blackburn CID, said: “We have launched an investigation after a man was found with serious injuries in Darwen.

“The victim has suffered a serious and sustained assault where he has been repeatedly punched and kicked to the head.

“He has suffered facial fractures as a result but is very fortunate not to have been more seriously injured.

“While we have made a number of arrests, we are keen to speak to anyone who can assist with our enquiries.”

Two men, aged 31 and 30, and two women, aged 34 and 31, all from Darwen, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

Two males aged 23 and 31, both from Blackburn, were also arrested on suspicion of assault. A 17-year-old boy from Darwen was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

Those taken into custody were bailed by police to dates in November and December.
