Information appeal made after pensioner is robbed in Tuebrook

0

An appeal for information has been made by detectives after a pensioner was robbed as he had been walking through Tuebrook. The 84 year old man had been approaching the underpass between New Road and Orphan Drive at about midday on Wednesday 9th September, when he heard footsteps.

Before the elderly man could turn around he was punched from behind and was knocked unconscious to the floor. The victim has suffered bruising to his jaw, his head and his knee. The man managed to make his way back home, although when he arrived home he then realised that his wallet, which contained a quantity of cash, had been taken.

CCTV opportunities in the area have been explored and enquiries are ongoing in the local area.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Ephgrave said ‘This was a cowardly attack on an elderly gentleman who was simply going about his business. Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare but I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Newsham Park at the time of the incident and may have seen someone running towards or away from the underpass to contact us.’

Anybody who has got any information is asked to get in touch with Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4812 or the confidential Crimestoppers line, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
