How to report stray dogs over Christmas

0

West Lancashire Borough Council has made arrangements for residents to report stray dogs between Christmas and New Year.

If you need to report a stray dog between 24 December 2017 and 2 January 2018 then please ring the Council’s contracted kennels, Leigh Dogs and Cats Home, on 07786 118088. Stray dogs will be collected and taken back to Leigh Dogs and Cats Home.

Any pet owners who wish to collect their pets must contact the home first on 01942 671215.

The kennels will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and there will be no collection service on these days. But in the event of someone finding a stray dog, it can be dropped off at Leigh Dogs and Cats Home between 9am and 11am on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Please call the home for details of when the home will be open and the service that will be available, or visit www.leighdogsandcatshome.co.uk, as opening hours will be reduced over the holiday period.

Normal service resumes on Tuesday 2 January. To find out more about the Council’s responsibilities regarding dogs please visit www.westlancs.gov.uk/dogs.

Councillor Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for Health and Community Safety, said: “We hope all dog owners will be responsible, and keep their pets safe and not let them stray. However, if anyone does see a stray dog between Christmas and New Year they should report the animal to Leigh Dogs and Cats Home. Dogs that are dangerously out of control should be reported to the police.”
