Get down to Skelmersdale this Mental Health Awareness Week

0

Mental health groups in West Lancashire are teaming up to recognise Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 – ‘Surviving to Thriving’ (8 – 14 May 2017).

Everyone in and around West Lancashire is welcome to attend some upcoming FREE local events taking place in Skelmersdale.

Birchwood Crisis Centre and their popular Junk Food Cafes will be teaming up with NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, Community Restart and other partners to host the following events.

  • Wednesday 10 May 2017, at the Tanhouse Community Centre, Skelmersdale 11.00am – 3pm
  • Thursday 11 May 2017, at the Ecumenical Centre, Skelmersdale 11.00am – 3pm

The events are open to everyone and food will be available through the Junk Food Cafes, which offer healthy meals on a Pay as You Feel basis. This is part of a food waste reduction programme. Birchwood intercept the food from local supermarkets that would otherwise have gone to waste.

For those with a creative flair, the events will also be producing a piece of community art to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.

Stella Connell from Birchwood, said:

“We’d like to invite anyone and everyone to join us at these events, which are all about raising awareness of mental health and showcasing what support and opportunities are available on our doorstep. These events are a real team effort and it is great to have so many experts, groups and organisations involved from across West Lancashire.  Mental health is hugely important to our health and wellbeing, and these events aim to encourage people to think about their mental health as well as their physical health.”

This year’s theme ‘Surviving to Thriving’ is about looking at mental health from a new angle – rather than ask why so many people are living with mental health problems, the aim is to uncover why too few of us are thriving with good mental health.

If you would like to book a stand or attend the event please contact Wendy Brown by email at wendy.brown@wlcrisiscentre.org.uk or ring Birchwood Office on 01695 717115 or 01695 728391 for a booking form.
