Flower show to bloom in 2017

Fantastic floral displays will return to Chorley in 2017 after organisers confirmed the dates for next year after the second ever show proved a blooming success.

Thirteen thousand people enjoyed the beautiful displays and entertainment with many saying it was a fantastic show.

Chorley Council is now on with planning the event for 2017, which will be back by popular demand in the beautiful setting of Astley Park.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “The response from both visitors and those exhibiting and trading at the show was overwhelmingly positive with many saying they are already coming back next year.

“We had a brilliant first show last year and to build on that success and improve it again was really important as we establish the event in the horticultural calendar.

“We already have a number of ideas of how we can make it even better for 2017 so get the dates in your diary – the 2017 show will be on 29 and 30 July.”

Visitors and exhibitors travelled from the length and breadth of the country with celebrity guests Joe Swift and Carol Klein impressed with the offer at the show in just its second year.

The event was a finalist in the prestigious Lancashire Tourism Awards last year and will once again be hoping to do well in the competition this time around.

“Many people who live in Chorley and attended told us how proud they were that the borough was holding an event of this kind, which is what we want to achieve,” said Councillor Bradley.

“Similarly, visitors who hadn’t been to Astley Park or Chorley before were very impressed with what they experienced and many said they’d be returning to see what else the borough has to offer.

“If there are any businesses that would like to get involved then get in touch with the council and we will be happy to discuss it with you and we will open applications in the autumn.”

The show featured 21 professional exhibitors from, as far away as Scotland and Scarborough, and the new Victorian Glasshouse was unveiled in the Walled Garden, behind the historic Astley Hall.
