Festive Fun Run Success

It wasn’t the trotting of reindeer in the snow that Crosby residents might have heard on Sunday, but the pavement pounding of competitors racing as the first Active Sefton Festive Fun Run took place.

The hugely successful event, organised by Sefton Council’s Everybody Active and Active Workforce teams, took place at Crosby Lakeside, with adults taking on a 5K challenge and families running a more relaxed and easy going 1K mini run.

Plenty of competitors got into the Christmas spirit and adorned festive fancy dress for the occasion, with Christmas turkeys, an elf and of course a Christmas tree all racing on the day.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “The first Festive Fun Run was a fantastic success and it was great to see some many people getting into the Christmas spirit with a good, healthy race!

“It was a great day at Crosby Lakeside and we have already some fantastic feedback on social media. The team worked really hard to put together the event and deserve plenty of recognition for their efforts on the day too.

“I hope everyone has an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and I look forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces at our events in 2016.”

The Festive Fun Run was the last Sefton Council sport and leisure event of 2015 but plans are already in place for next year, including a 5K, a duathlon and sports leagues.
