Families join Captain Tuck for healthy park events

0

Families gathered earlier this week in Newton-le-Willows’ Mesnes Park for the first of a series of summer fun days, happening throughout August in parks around the borough.

Organised by St Helens Council’s Healthy Living Team, the events are hosted by its lion mascot Captain Tuck, who encourages families to eat and snack healthily, and keep active.

Activities include a leisurely walk through the park, before fun games like parachute, circus skills and friendly sports day competitions. This helps children achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day.

Families who enjoy the day are encouraged to sign up for further free Fit4All activity sessions with the Healthy Living Team, which help families to eat healthier, increase physical activity, maintain a healthy weight, reduce stress and improve mental wellbeing.

Future family fun days with Captain Tuck are as follows:

Tuesday 8 August, Victoria Park play area – 1pm-3pm
Tuesday 15 August, Taylor Park Boathouse – 1pm-3pm
Thursday 17 August, Mesnes Park Rangers’ hut – 1pm-3pm
Thursday 24 August, Victoria Park play area – 1pm-3pm

Please note, all young children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Come along and receive a Captain Tuck mask, crayons and a pedometer to track your steps.
