Team news

Everton have got doubts about Steven Pienaar’s fitness, as he is struggling with muscle fatigue. Both Leon Osman and James McCarthy have returned to training and they both should be fit for the game.

Man Utd will once again be without Michael Carrick, Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo; however Daley Blind may make a return following his ankle problem. Rafael has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a rib injury.

Match Preview

Everton are going into this game on what is probably their best run of form this season, being unbeaten in their last five league games. This game is a further step forward in comparison to their recent games, but it is the sort of game which Everton should be seeing as a test of how they can cope when facing the type of team who they feel they should be challenging for European places with. Tomorrow’s game is the most difficult game that is remaining for Everton this season, and they will feel that if they can come away from the match with a positive result that they can kick-on towards the end of the season and claim a place in the top half of the table at the end of the season.

Man Utd will be looking to claim the three points they need to continue with their efforts for Champions League qualification, this is a vast improvement on last season for Man Utd and they will be looking at other fixtures this weekend and possibly thinking that they could climb to second in the table with the right results. While their style of play may not be to the liking of all of their fans, it can’t be argued that they are picking up the results which are helping to move them back towards contention for the top places in the league.

As has been the case recently between these two sides, there are a number of added interests in this match, with former Everton players Rooney and Fellaini possibly playing for Utd, while Everton are likely to have former Utd keeper Tim Howard in goal, this is not including possibly the most contentious recent link between these teams in the shape of the former manager of both sides David Moyes! Footballers at this level should be too professional to be wanting to go into a match against their former employers wanting to get one over on them, but they are only human after all and they will be wanting to show that they have all moved on from their times with their old clubs, but the number of players facing their old clubs can make for some extra impetus here.

Match Prediction

Although they are on a five match unbeaten run going into this game, I am not overly confident that Everton will find it easy to get a victory over Man Utd. Everton have been improving in their form and manner of play recently, but they are still short of where they were last season and a few players are still not performing at the top of their games. I think that Everton will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the hope of continuing their climb up towards the top half of the table, although gaining the three points is an unlikely outcome in my opinion. I can see the game being a competitive game with both sides matching up well to each other and the result being an entertaining 1-1 draw.
