Everton will be going into this match with a close to full strength squad to choose from, with only the long-term injured still not fit to return. Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo have returned to training although they are not ready to be included for selection just yet. Sylvain Distin looks likely to have recovered from his injured back and could be ready for possible selection, while it is looking likely that Seamus Coleman will be fit for selection after picking up a knock to his head during the Wolfsburg game. There was also good news surrounding the injury to Ross Barkley which is looking to be improving well and he may not be out for as long as first thought.
After their comfortable victory in the Europa League on Thursday Everton will be hoping that they are not hit by the ‘mythical’ European hangover for the match tomorrow. Their European adventure midweek should not have taken too much out of the players, due to the nature of their comfortable win and so there should be no after-effects when facing Crystal Palace. Another positive in this match for Everton should be their style of football and the fact that they are comfortable as a team when in possession of the ball, this has allowed the team to utilise their attacking prowess this season and to score at least 2 goals in each of their games up to now. While they have been a little suspect at times defensively this season, the fact that they know they are capable of scoring goals will be a boost to their confidence.
Crystal Palace who are yet to record their first win of the season so far, will be taking some positives from the fact that they are unbeaten under their new manager; however this will be a stiff test for them in playing an in form Everton side at Goodison. It will be interesting to see if they can contain the Everton attackers and if so how they go about in containing them.
I think that after recording their first win of the season against West Brom and the manner in which they have been playing this season will give Everton confidence going into this game. Added to the fact that they are the home side and their style of play is the fact that they have had seven different players to register a goal for them already this season, this will provide an extra problem for opposition teams as there is not just the one player to concentrate on to prevent goals being scored against them. I think that gaining their first win of the season, added to being the home side and the fact of having goals coming from numerous sources currently then this all points towards a victory for Everton and I predict a 3-0 Everton win.
