Enjoy the Great Outdoors in West Lancashire Parks this spring

0

Spring has well and truly sprung in West Lancashire and there is no better time to enjoy the great outdoors.

The Borough Council’s Parks and Countryside Ranger Service manages some lovely places to visit across the Borough and is organising great free events for people to enjoy this month.

Nature enthusiasts can find out more about the flora that grows in Beacon Country Park with the Rangers at the “Identifying Wildflowers” event on Saturday 7 April, starting at 10am. Booking is not required, just turn up.

Children aged between 5 and 12 can also discover new skills on two wheels at the free Bike Ability Level 1 course at Coronation Park in Ormskirk on Saturday 14 April. Whether you are learning to ride on two wheels for the first time or improving your balance and ability, then this session will suit you. Learn to control your bike, signal, improve observation and learn techniques to prepare you for road cycling in the future. Places must be booked in advance by ringing 01695 570258 or emailing anne.faulkner@westlancs.gov.uk.

On Sunday 15 April walkers can enjoy the Beacon Canal Loop. No need to book, just turn up. The walk starts at 10am prompt and covers 8 miles of varied terrain. Meeting point is the Visitor Centre at Beacon Country Park.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at these events, except for the Junior Rangers events which have separate arrangements. Please ensure you wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather, ground conditions and the planned activity.

Heidi McDougall, Director of Leisure and Environment Services, said “Spring is a great time of year to visit West Lancashire’s parks so come along to enjoy the great outdoors and our exciting parks events.”
