Don’t dump….recycle

That’s the message from Warrington Borough Council after numerous reports of fly tipping have been received from around the borough.

Complaints about fly tipping have been on the increase at a time when recycling unwanted items is becoming ever more popular.

Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “There are organisations and charities such as the British Heart Foundation and St Rocco’s who will gladly arrange to pick up large unwanted items in a good condition, free of charge. There are also house clearance companies who will take away unwanted furniture.”

The council will also arrange to pick up bulky unwanted items, with white goods picked up free of charge; up to three bulky items for £20, and £6.67 for each extra item with up to five items picked up per collection.

Cllr Guthrie said: “Fly tipping can be a real blight on communities and, as a council, we take firm action against those who fly tip. It is illegal, can carry hefty fines and will not be tolerated.

“Fly tipping not only attracts vermin and damages the environment, but it costs council tax payers for it to be removed. It is concerning that so much money and energy goes into removing illegally dumped waste especially when it could go towards improving our environment and the quality of life for so many residents.”

Fly tipping can be reported online at warrington.gov.uk/flytipping or by telephoning 01925 443322.
