Police were called around 9pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 24) following reports of a robbery in Heathgate.

A 19-year-old man was walking when he was approached by three females. One of the group demanded his phone before allegedly attempting to attack the victim with a wine bottle. It is believed she pushed the victim to the ground before making off from the scene.

Around 9.45pm, police received a further report of assault in Falkland. Two females and a male alleged they had been assaulted by a female.

Later in the evening, around 10.15pm, a 25-year-old man reported he had been attacked by three females with a wine bottle in Beechtrees.

A short time later, around 10.25pm, a further report of criminal damage was reported to police after a wine bottle had been thrown through a house window in Bearncroft.

Detectives believe the incidents are connected.

Temp Det Insp Ian Moore, of Lancashire Police, said: “An investigation is underway following a number of incidents in Skelmersdale yesterday.

“Two people have been arrested and we are conducting a number of enquiries.

“It is important that communities have confidence in the police and I would encourage anyone to speak to their local officers if they have any concerns about violent crime in their area. Similarly it is important that we work together with our communities to identify and deal with those committing offences, so if you have any information that would help us please call 101 or report it to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at socsi.in/tIFBM.”

A 33-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, both from Skelmersdale, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are in custody.
