Council Tax bills to arrive through doors

0

Residents in Chorley will receive their council tax bill this week and the local council is reminding people there are plenty of ways to pay to save time and money.

Chorley Council sees a surge in phone calls when the council tax bills land and the authority is urging people to pay online, set up a direct debit or use the automated payment line.

This will save residents time in trying to get through and by paying online or using the automated line it will save the council money too, which can go towards providing services.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council said: “This week Chorley residents will receive their council tax bill through their door and we want to remind people that they have several options to choose from when paying their council tax bill.

“There are options to pay your council tax in instalments with different payment options available, although we recommend the easiest option which is through direct debit.

“There has been a 2.99 per cent increase on our portion of the council tax bill so that we can continue to invest in what matters most to our residents despite the cuts to our grant funding.

“We’d like to re-assure our residents that we use their council tax to improve services in the area so that everyone benefits in the best way possible.”

The council tax bill for residents in Chorley goes towards Lancashire County Council, Chorley Council, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire and the Lancashire Combined Fire Authority.

For an average Band D property, Chorley Council receives 11 per cent of your Council Tax payment, Lancashire County Council gets about 75 per cent and the rest is split between the police and fire service.

There are several ways to pay your Council Tax bill, including direct debit, online, by our automated payment line 01257 511000, at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet or through your bank. Direct debit is the most efficient way to pay your bill as you get to choose from three dates per month and don’t have to remember to pay once it is set up.
