St Helens Council would like to thank the community and people from across the UK and Ireland for helping to trace the relatives of Eric Wolfgang Michael O’Shaughnessy, after a recent appeal.

Due to the tremendous amount of responses and a lot of hard work by the people and agencies who spread word of the plea, the tracing effort has been successful, and the council were able to contact family and friends of Mr O’Shaughnessy in Galway and London to inform them of the tragic news.

The council received replies and offers of support from numerous Veterans and serving forces members who served with Mr O’Shaughnessy, and organisations including the British Legion, Veterans Honoured, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and the Infantry of The Royal Irish Regiment, where the deceased served as a Private.

Gillian Green of the local authority, who has been taking calls from across the UK and Ireland since the plea went out, would also like to extend her personal thanks to the many people who contributed to the tracing effort.

Anyone who would like to provide support at the funeral should contact Coop Funeral Services, on 01744 23675, located at 3-5 Eccleston Street, St Helens, Merseyside, WA10 2PE.

The funeral has now been arranged for Friday, 30 October, 3:30pm at St Helens Crematorium, Rainford Road, St Helens, Merseyside WA10 6DF Tel: 01744 677406/407.
