Clayton Green Library hosts a free performance

0

Clayton Green Library is hosting an exciting free performance later this week.

A group of local ladies, known as the ‘Modern Day Suffragists’, will perform poems, speeches, playlets and monologues at the library on Saturday, 13 October, from 11.30am to 12.30pm. They will be dressed in costume from the time.

The event is to commemorate the suffragists who joined together in 1897 to fight for women to get the vote through peaceful means.

A Vote 100 exhibition about the suffragists will also be available at the library from Saturday 13 October to Saturday 20 October.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “I hope that people go along to the free performance, and also take a look at the exhibition.

“I’m pleased that we are recognising the importance of women getting the right to vote. I’m sure that both the performance and the exhibition will be very interesting.”

More information about the performance and exhibition are available by visiting bit.ly/claytonsuffragists, by emailing claytongreen.library@lancashire.gov.uk, and by phoning 0300 123 6703.

Anyone who lives in the UK can join a Lancashire library, either online or by visiting in person. Membership is free and there are no age restrictions.
