Sefton Council has launched a special writing competition in celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.

Aspiring authors must use the theme of justice in their short stories which could include tales of freedom, escape and democracy.

Sponsored by Conkerton Memorial Fund, in association with Liverpool Law Society, the winning article of up 1000 words will receive a fantastic prize of £250, while the runner up will be awarded £50.

Councillor Trish Hardy, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to take part in a prestigious writing competition.

“Whether you’re a regular writer or this is your first time writing a short story all entries using the theme of justice will be welcomed.

“Entries can be submitted by anyone aged 16 or over up until midnight on 6 February 2016 – which coincides with National Libraries Day – and we wish you lots of luck!.”

Writers can download a copy of the application form from the website or pick one up from any library in Sefton.

The judging panel is made up of local author, Ian Cragg, the Director of the Liverpool Law Society and representatives of the Sefton’s Library service.
