Bacup Library gets ready to show off new look

Bacup Library on St. James Square is set to have an official reopening following a major refurbishment to update facilities available to library users.

On Tuesday 2 June at 2pm County Councillor Marcus Johnstone, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services will officially open the library to the public following a revamp to modernise and improve facilities as part of Lancashire County Council’s Library Regenerate Programme.

The programme aims to create modern, attractive and flexible spaces from which staff can deliver the wide range of services, traditional and new, which meet the needs and expectations of local communities across the county.

The new look library has been designed to provide a light, spacious and open environment with mobile shelving to create flexible community spaces. Automatic doors that are accessible for disabled people, and baby–changing facilities, have also been installed.

The new opening times for the library are:

Monday 9.30am to 7pm

Tuesday and Wednesday 9.30am to 5pm

Thursday – closed all day

Friday 9.30am to 5pm

Saturday 9.30am to 4pm

The library will now be open on Monday, Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes. The library will continue to remain open on Wednesday and Saturday lunchtimes.

The changes to opening hours are as a result of a recent consultation asking library users about their preferred opening times, as part of the county council’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality services to its residents.

Bacup Library is part of Lancashire County Council’s library service.

Anyone who lives in the UK can join a Lancashire library, either online or by visiting in person. It’s free and there are no age restrictions.
